SVGator Figma Plugin - FAQ

What can I do with SVGator's Figma plugin?

The SVGator Figma plugin offers a streamlined way to work with animations directly inside Figma:

  • Add animations to Figma – Bring SVGator projects into your Figma files with preview options (GIF, MP4, or static SVG);
  • Download production-ready files – Export animated SVG, Lottie, Flutter, or React Native formats directly from the plugin;
  • Transfer designs to SVGator – Copy Figma designs while preserving paths, fills, and gradients (works on any SVGator plan);
  • Preview animations in Figma – View GIF/MP4 previews in Present and Preview modes;
  • No SVGator account required for developers – Access production-ready exports if you only need implementation files
  • Works across all Figma tools – Compatible with Figma Design/Dev Mode, Slides, and FigJam

How is it different from other animation Figma plugins?

The SVGator Figma plugin stands out from other animation plugins in several key ways:

  • Bidirectional workflow – Move designs between SVGator and Figma seamlessly
  • Production-ready exports – Download optimized files directly from the plugin without leaving Figma
  • Multiple export formats – Choose from animated SVG, Lottie, Flutter, or React Native
  • No account required for developers – Access production-ready files through the plugin even without an SVGator account

Why does my animation appear as a static image in Figma?

Figma's editor doesn't support real-time animation playback, so your SVG appears as a static image while editing.

To preview the animation, use the plugin's Preview option to generate a GIF or MP4, then view it in Present or Preview mode.

Do interactive animations (hover, click, scroll) work in Figma?

Interactive behaviors aren't supported in Figma's editor, so animations with hover, click, or scroll triggers won't play there.

To preview the animation timing and motion (without interactivity), generate a GIF or MP4 using the plugin's Preview file feature and view it in Present or Preview mode.

Does the plugin sync automatically when I update animations?

No, updates require a manual refresh. After updating your animation in SVGator:

  1. Open the plugin in Figma
  2. Select the project you modified
  3. Click the gear icon next to Production-ready file
  4. Click Reload project's settings

Your production-ready file updates instantly. The plugin thumbnail may take 10–15 seconds to refresh.

Do I need a paid SVGator account to use the plugin?

No, the plugin works with any SVGator plan, including the free plan.

Developers who only need production-ready files don't need an SVGator account at all. They can download files directly through the plugin, as long as they have edit access to that particular Figma project.

Do I need an SVGator account to use the plugin?

No, it's not mandatory. You can access production-ready files directly from the plugin even without an SVGator account, as long as you have edit access to the Figma project. However, preview files (GIF/MP4) won't be available without an account.

Can all SVGator team members use the plugin?

Yes, all team members can use the plugin. Team members can access shared projects by selecting the Shared files option within the plugin.

Can I animate directly in Figma using this plugin?

No, animation happens in the SVGator editor. The plugin lets you bring animated projects into Figma and download production-ready files, but you'll need to use SVGator's editor to create or modify animations.

Can I preview animations before adding them to Figma?

No, you can't preview animations directly in the plugin window. However, you have two options:

  • Generate a preview file – Create a GIF or MP4 to view the animation in Present or Preview mode
  • Open in SVGator – Click Open project to view your animation in SVGator's editor, where you can preview it, test interactivity, and make adjustments

What production-ready file formats can I export?

The plugin supports four production-ready formats: animated SVG, Lottie JSON, Flutter, and React Native.

Can I edit export settings after importing animation to Figma?

No, export settings must be edited in SVGator. After making changes in SVGator's editor, remember to click Save. Then, to sync the updated settings with Figma:

  1. Select the project in the plugin
  2. Click the gear icon next to Production-ready file
  3. Click Reload project's settings

Can I export to both SVG and Lottie?

Yes, you can export to multiple formats, but only one format at a time. To get both, generate the first format, then return to the plugin and generate the second format separately.

Why does my MP4 preview have a background color?

The MP4 format doesn't support transparency, so any background color from your project will appear in the MP4 preview, even if you've disabled Include in export for the canvas color in your SVGator export settings.

This only affects the MP4 preview file. Your production-ready exports (animated SVG, Lottie, Flutter, React Native) will respect your transparency settings and won't include the background if you've disabled it.

Why doesn't the project title update when I change it in Export settings?

Project titles can only be changed in SVGator's editor, not in the Export settings. After renaming your project in the editor, click Reload project's settings in the plugin to sync the updated title.
